Join the India Basin Waterfront Park project partners, Illuminate and the Bayview Opera House for the Sounds of the Street music series at India Basin Shoreline Park (Hunters Point Boulevard and Hawes Street) this Saturday, October 7 from noon to 4 p.m. with scratch DJ and urban dance workshops.
Leading the scratch DJ workshop is DJ ShortKut, who performed many shows in and around the Bayview-Hunters Point (BVHP) in the 1990s as a member of Invisible Scratch Picklz. He recently returned from performing on LL Cool J's US tour.
Feline Finesse Dance Company is an all-female youth hip-hop dance team based in BVHP that will lead the urban dance workshop. This organization creates a safe haven for all young ladies to freely, creatively, and artistically express themselves through dance while empowering them to reach their full potential, goals and dreams.
This program is an initiative of the project's Equitable Development Plan, following the strategies to use the physical spaces and park programming to build community cohesion and social capital and to ensure that park programming is equitable and responsive to community needs and desires.
